Fuller Long were delighted to be involved with refurbishment works at an iconic recording studio housed in a magnificent Grade II listed former Congregational Chapel in Camden, London
Listed Building Consent was granted for the replacement of the existing glazed atrium which was installed when the building was converted in the 1990s as well as a range of internal alterations to the layout and configuration of the building. A new high quality, contemporary glazed addition was granted permission, providing a significant enhancement to the building’s reception area and a new restaurant for staff and recording artists.
Fuller Long assessed the significance of the listed building and its sensitivity to change and were able to guide the formulation of proposals from an early stage in the process, including demonstrating that the existing atrium was of no intrinsic value and that the proposals would enhance the special interest of the listed building and respond more positively to its form, layout and fabric. The project threw up a range of issues such as the creation of new openings in historic masonry, the adaptation of decorative windows and the resolution of difficult interfaces between the existing listed building and the new glazed extension. Our expertise and knowledge ultimately helped to formulate proposals that were sympathetic to the listed building and acceptable to the Council’s Conservation Officer.
