Application Type: Listed Building Consent
Development Description: Renovation Listed Building Wealden Hall House
Local Authorities: Folkestone and Hythe District Council

Fuller Long are delighted to have assisted our client with obtaining Listed Building consent for internal works to this fine Grade II* listed house in Kent.

The house had not been refurbished for several decades and its electrical and heating systems were no longer safe or fit for purpose.  The new owners were passionate about the history and architecture of the house and wanted to ensure that any works to upgrade its servicing did not adversely impact upon its special architectural or historic interest.

The core of the house dated from the 15th century and was a fine example of a well-preserved Wealden Hall House with original panelling and extensive surviving decorative features.  The house had been enlarged in several phases during the 1930s and whilst these parts were of lesser significance, they were also considered to contribute to the special interest of the Listed Building.  Following our heritage advice and input, proposals were developed which were sensitive and sympathetic to the house’s significance whilst addressing all the needs and requirements of modern day life and expectations.  Heritage Consultant Hannah Walker’s supporting Heritage Statement demonstrated positively to the Council that the proposals for the Listed Building would respond appropriately to the varying significance of its different parts and overall would ensure that its special interest would be preserved.
