Application Type: Listed Building Consent
Development Description: Major internal refurbishment
Location: Westminster City Council

HEA are delighted to have gained listed building consent for major works to the inside of a grade II listed building in Pall Mall, Westminster.

The works will include the addition of partitions at sub-basement level, new floor finishes, applied moulding to upper floors, rewiring, new kitchenettes, new glazed partitions at 3rd floor level and reinstatement of mosaic tread markers on the secondary staircase.

Being built by renowned architect Sir Edwin Lutyens, the Art Deco style building is a prominent feature on one of the most famous streets in London. It was important, therefore, to provide thorough justification for the proposed works and show that they wouldn’t harm the significance of this notable building.

As the works to the building were all internal, only a listed building consent application was required to secure the necessary permissions to make the alterations. Our team of heritage experts put together a detailed heritage statement that outlined the property’s history, making note of features that contributed to its significance. In doing so, they were able to pinpoint exactly what features within the building still retained their historic value and areas of the building which would be less sensitive to change. The proposals were subsequently granted listed building consent.

If you are looking to make alterations to a listed building and require listed building consent, or full planning permission, HEA can help.  To speak with one of our experienced team of planning and heritage consultants, please call us on 0808 164 1288 or email us at hello@hea-llp.com.
